5 out of 5 stars Perfect For Lifters At Any Stage   March 7, 2010
John M. Vignolo (Montvale, NJ)
I'm a 22 year-old recent college grad, and this book is the absolute definitive source that I use for lifting. As you can see in the description, it contains over 600 exercises in full detail. No matter what stage of lifting you are at, or even if you are a casual lifter or someone who wants to sneak in some workouts on the weekends - this is the only book you need. Period.

For the more serious lifters, I reccomend this book and Strength Training Anatomy.

This book not only tells you how to do the specific exercises, but gets into what the fine details are - e.g. keep your core straight, back in a particular position, etc. etc. It also shows you compound exercises that I never read about or have seen anyone doing in the gym that work wonders - example would be Cable Face Pull with External Rotation.

This book has nothing but positive reviews for a reason. It is the absolute definitive source. Skip the magazines, the motivational diet speakers, the supposed gurus and just get a book packed with reliable info like this and start hitting the gym pronto. Your body will thank you.

5 out of 5 stars Options, options, options   March 7, 2010
Gospel Bil (Bristol, RI)
Simply stated, this Mens Health Big Book of Exercises is filled with strength training exercises that bring freshness to my workouts. Many strength plateau breakers here.

The photos are sharp, easily understood and applied and the written explanations help me make sense of the strength training exercises being presented.

A great exercise book to add to my strength training library. I am glad I purchased it and recommend it to anyone looking to improve and advance your workouts.

5 out of 5 stars A wealth of exercise info at a bargain basement price   February 25, 2010

If you're looking to refresh your current workout a bit, "The Men's Health Big Book of Exercises" is an outstanding way to do it. The book's most touted selling point is its inclusion of over six hundred exercises. This is true-it does include a huge number of exercises, however keep in mind that 8 of them may be based on variations of the deadlift, twelve of them bicep curl variations, etc. This is not a bad thing mind you, after all, a person can only do the usual suspects (Curls, Squats, Presses, Deadlifts, Rows, etc.) in the same way before boredom sets in. This book provides a wealth of information and gives you unique approaches to all the old favorites, along with lots of new exercises I almost guarantee you've never done. And for under $15 this book is an absolute steal. All of the exercises are shown in full color and the book has a hefty page count too. The whole thing has a real quality feel to it. I can't recommend it enough. I've already incorporated a lot of these exercises into my last two exercise routines (I change up routines every four weeks) and every time I take this book to the gym, I have at least one or two guys who approach me to ask questions about it. I think I've personally sold a half dozen or more people on this book just by carrying it around with me to the gym. I've purchased a lot of exercise books over the years, and this is by far the most impressive of the bunch. (Another really great book to check out-especially if your gym has a cable machine is "The Men's Health Gym Bible".)
